She first captured audiences with the hit “It’s a Heartache” before achieving worldwide superstardom in 1983 with “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” the Jim Steinman-penned power ballad that topped charts across the globe and became one of the defining songs of the decade. She later enjoyed continued success with “Holding Out for a Hero,” another enduring classic that remains popular in film, television, and popular culture.
Known for her distinctive raspy voice, Tyler enjoyed a recording career spanning more than five decades. She released 18 studio albums, earned three Grammy Award nominations, represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, and was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2022 for her services to music.
