The Liberty, Mississippi, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of three members of the Butler family who were killed in a devastating tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 59 in Trussville, Alabama. Authorities identified the victims as 29-year-old Dquarious Marqua Butler, his 32-year-old wife, Dominque Mariona Butler, and their 5-year-old daughter, Nailani Butler.
According to officials, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday in a construction zone along northbound Interstate 59. Preliminary reports indicate that Dquarious Butler was driving a commercial truck with his wife and four children on board when the vehicle collided with another tractor-trailer, resulting in a catastrophic crash that prompted a large emergency response.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Dquarious Butler and his young daughter, Nailani Butler, were pronounced dead at the scene. Dominque Butler was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where medical teams worked to save her life. Despite their efforts, she later succumbed to her injuries.
Three other children who were traveling in the truck, identified as immediate family members, were injured in the collision and transported to Children’s of Alabama for treatment. Authorities have not released updates regarding their conditions.
The crash forced the closure of the northbound lanes of Interstate 59 for several hours as emergency responders worked to assist the victims, investigate the collision, and clear the roadway. Personnel from Trussville Fire and Rescue, the Center Point Fire District, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency responded to the scene.
