UPPER UWCHLAN TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA — Family, friends, teammates, and the local sports community are mourning the loss of Sean O’Connor, who died at Marsh Creek State Park over the Fourth of July weekend following severe storms that swept through the region.
Authorities confirmed that O’Connor was the man whose body was recovered after an extensive overnight search at the popular Chester County park. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 4, shortly after 8 p.m., as powerful storms moved across southeastern Pennsylvania.
Emergency responders launched a large-scale search operation after receiving reports of an incident on the water. Multiple boats were deployed from the west boat ramp, with local fire department search-and-rescue teams working alongside staff from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). After hours of searching, O’Connor’s body was recovered shortly after midnight.
Officials have not yet released the official cause or manner of death. The Chester County Coroner’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
Sean is being remembered as an avid softball and baseball player whose passion for the game was matched only by his kindness and generosity. Friends say he was a familiar face on local playing fields, always eager to compete, encourage teammates, and spend time with those he cared about.
In a heartfelt tribute shared through a GoFundMe campaign established to assist with funeral expenses, friend Stephanie Thrasher described Sean as “an amazingly kind, caring man.”
“For those who knew him, you know his smile would light up the room,” she wrote. “He was always ready to go to a field.”
The fundraiser, created to support Sean’s family during this difficult time, has received an overwhelming response from the community, raising more than $10,000 as friends, teammates, and supporters continue to honor his memory.
The softball community has also expressed its grief. Softball America paid tribute to O’Connor, describing him as “a truly kind soul who left us way too soon,” reflecting the impact he had on fellow athletes and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
State Representative Danielle Friel-Otten extended her condolences to Sean’s family while also recognizing the dedication of the first responders who worked tirelessly throughout the holiday weekend.
“Giving up your holiday to answer a call for help says everything about the character of this community,” she said. “We know this was a difficult night for everyone involved, and we thank you for your service and your compassion.”
As loved ones continue to mourn, Sean O’Connor is being remembered not only for his love of baseball and softball but also for the warmth, positivity, and genuine kindness he shared with everyone around him. His infectious smile, generous heart, and passion for sports created lasting memories that will continue to live on in the lives of his family, friends, and teammates.
