
JACKSON TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA — Family, friends, and the Jackson Township community are mourning the passing of James J. “Jimmy” Mahon V, who died on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the age of 42. Remembered for his generous heart, adventurous spirit, and unwavering devotion to his family, Jimmy leaves behind a legacy of kindness that touched countless lives.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Jimmy was the beloved son of James J. Mahon IV and Colleen (Kerdesky) Mahon of Jackson Township. He graduated from Lake-Lehman High School before attending Wilkes College, where he continued pursuing his interests while laying the foundation for a successful career as an independent contractor.
Throughout his career, Jimmy worked across the Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New Jersey regions. He was affiliated with Local 19 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) in Baltimore and had recently begun working with the organization’s local chapter in Wilkes-Barre. His professionalism, strong work ethic, and willingness to lend a helping hand earned him the respect of colleagues throughout the industry.
Those who knew Jimmy remember him as someone who consistently put others before himself. Family and friends describe him as compassionate, accepting, and always ready to offer support whenever it was needed. His generosity extended far beyond his work, making him a cherished presence in the lives of those around him.
Outside of his career, Jimmy embraced life with a passion for travel and exploration. His adventures took him across the United States and to countries including Ireland, Iceland, Peru, Poland, Russia, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, and Turkey. He treasured experiencing different cultures and creating lasting memories through his journeys.
Jimmy also had a deep appreciation for history, the arts, and his family’s coal-mining heritage. Whenever he returned home to Pennsylvania, he enjoyed spending time in Jim Thorpe, a place that held special significance for him. Above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews, who lovingly knew him as “Uncle Jimmy.”
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James J. Mahon III, and his grandmother, Joyce Ann Kerdesky.
Jimmy is survived by his parents, James J. Mahon IV and Colleen Mahon; his grandmother, Anna Magill; grandfather, Peter Kerdesky; sisters, Colleen Moyer and her husband, Stephen, and Joscelyn Summa and her husband, Scott; his beloved nieces and nephews, Samuel, Maia, Isla, Chloe, and Sawyer; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc. in Shavertown. A private Mass will be celebrated at the convenience of the family, while a public celebration of Jimmy’s life will be announced at a later date. His family has expressed heartfelt appreciation to the many friends who accepted, loved, and supported him throughout his life.
James J. “Jimmy” Mahon V will be remembered for his compassionate spirit, adventurous nature, and the genuine kindness he shared with everyone he met. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his legacy will continue to live on through the memories he created, the lives he touched, and the love he gave so freely. May he rest in eternal peace.
