DAPHNE, ALABAMA — The Daphne community is mourning the tragic death of Samantha Baker, 37, a respected realtor and Army veteran, who was fatally stabbed during a domestic incident on the evening of July 5, 2026. The attack also left her husband, Lance Baker, critically injured, while authorities allege the couple’s 17-year-old son was responsible for the violence.
According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence after receiving reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, they found Samantha Baker suffering from critical injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts by emergency responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her husband, 46-year-old Lance Baker, sustained severe injuries during the incident and was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he remained in critical condition.
Investigators said the incident began as a domestic dispute involving disciplinary actions inside the family home. Authorities allege that the couple’s 17-year-old son armed himself with a knife and attacked both parents inside the residence before the violence continued outside.
Following the attack, the suspect allegedly barricaded himself inside the home, called 911, and later surrendered peacefully to responding deputies. He has been charged as an adult with murder and attempted murder. During his initial court appearance, a judge set his bond at $1 million. Because he is a juvenile, authorities have not publicly released his identity.
Neighbors described a harrowing scene as Lance Baker desperately sought help after the attack. Home surveillance footage reportedly showed him running through the neighborhood, knocking on doors and pleading, “Please help me. I don’t want to die.” Residents also reported seeing bloody handprints on several homes where he attempted to get someone’s attention before emergency responders arrived. Investigators said the crime scene extended beyond the family’s property into neighboring yards.
Samantha Baker was widely respected both professionally and personally. Before establishing herself as a successful realtor, she served six years in the Army National Guard and Army Reserve, where she met her future husband.
Lance Baker has served in the U.S. Army Reserve for more than 26 years and currently serves as Battalion Commander of the 1184th Deployment and Distribution Support Battalion based in Mobile.
